Sardos
Artists Management Corporation was founded in 1955 by the late
James Sardos and since his death in 1997, continues under the
direction of his wife, Rita
De Carlo Sardos. Mr. Sardos managed the careers of
many great opera singers, including the legendary Jerome Hines.
He also represented important conductors and stage directors and
was instrumental in launching the international careers of a number
of young singers.
During
her twenty-eight-year career as a lyric mezzo-soprano, Rita De
Carlo sang with some of the world’s greatest singers in many of
the important opera companies in the United States and Canada.
Her
appearances have included Frugola in Il Tabarro with Placido Domingo, Sherrill Milnes, and Louis Quilico,
as well as Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana with Placido Domingo. She also sang performances
of Bersi and La Vecchia Madelon in Andrea Chenier
with Montserrat Caballe, Franco Corelli, and Richard Tucker; Marina
in Boris Godunov with Jerome Hines; Siebel in Faust with Jerome Hines, William Lewis, and Justino Diaz;
Emila in Otello
with Renata Tebaldi, Carol Neblett, Jon Vickers, James McCracken,
and Louis Quilico; Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro,
Mallika in Lakme,
and Stefano in Romeo et Juliette
with Roberta Peters; Suzuki in Madama Butterfly with
Renata Scotto, Raina Kabaivanska, Gilda Cruz-Romo, Maria Pellegrini,
Lando Bartolini, and Giuseppe Campora; Maddalena in Rigoletto
with Renata Scotto, Sherrill Milnes and Louis Quilico; Fenena
in Nabucco with Elena Suliotis, Rita Hunter, Peter Glossop, Ferruccio
Furlanetto, and Ezio Flagello; Preziosilla in La Forza
del Destino with Gilda Cruz-Romo,
Lucine Amara, Louis Quilico, and Giuseppe Giacomini; and La Marquise
de Berkenfeld in La Fille du Régiment
with Anna Moffo and Marcello Giordani.
After
retiring from singing, Ms. Sardos joined the agency as her husband’s
partner.
She
continues in the same tradition of representing international
artists, as well as guiding and nurturing the careers of many
talented young singers. She brings to the management
a wealth of knowledge and understanding from the experience of
having been an opera singer herself, giving to her artists a very
high level of personal attention, and advising them on all the
various aspects of a career.
Ms.
Sardos has also been a member of the faculty of the Austrian American
Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria, conducting audition seminars.
